  16. Well Memorial Day is nigh upon us. Once
  17. upon a time I wrote an icon
  18. tik tak toe game that wins! It uses a trick difficult
  19. for many computers, it cheats ;-). I was trying to
  20. write your typical run of the mill game, when an
  21. imperceptable program error, a side effect of
  22. untyped variables, generated a cheating game.
  23. It's so stinky, you can't see the cheating logic.
  24. It's a side effect. I fixed the problem in one
  25. version, but still kept the cheat because I think
  26. it has interesting educational possibilities.

  28. I thought it reminded me of my manager at
  29. a previous position. No matter how close you
  30. come to winning, you still loose. And you thought
  31. you could at least stalemate? Well sometimes,
  32. maybe. And it's well nigh impossible to prove
  33. there's anything amiss until it's too late.....

  35. Now it's the WEB age. I wanted to port it to CGI.
  36. The cheat, being a software side effect, was
  37. impossible to translate into the web paradigm.
  38. The harder I tried, the CGI became all HTML.

  41. The web just shows, it doesn't decide. The
  42. web tik tak toe is alas just a document. It lays
  43. there, and does nothing. The plays are an
  44. illusion. Well I guess that's neat and theoretical
  45. in it's own way.
